Psalm 63:1-8
Daniel 12:1-4
Revelation 3:1-6
David’s word in the first verse “my soul thirsts for you:” contain a double meaning it would seem. This psalm, written when he was in the wilderness of Judah spoke of both a physical thirst as well as a spiritual one.
Those words are a reminder of the times in my life when I sense a personal wandering in the ‘dessert’ of life and faith and thirst for God’s presence and love. I wonder where God’s gone, where I am and what my options are at that moment in time. And then, I remember God’s steadfast love that never ends and his love that will never leave me, no matter what.
The season of Lent is a journey of faith that begins in the desert with Jesus’ temptations. Temptations fill our lives as well and, with the power and strength of the Spirit, we too can overcome them. And, if we remain thirsty for God, the One who separated the land from the water will slake our thirst and come to us to remind us of the love that is ours each day.
