Psalm 39
Jeremiah 11:1-17
Romans 2:1-11
Ah, the psalm and the reading in Romans both offer up caution to us lest we judge others while sinning ourselves. Our judgment does not matter, in the end God will judge us all - he will repay according to each one's deeds. If we do the judging, we condemn ourselves. Sometimes that is a trap we fall into when we are trying to do the most good.
Do you look around at others to see what they are doing for Lent? Do you hold up your own discipline as a model? Our journey is ours alone - both in Lent and as we find and follow the path of Jesus. We can not judge the journey and discipline of others because we are not in their shoes and we are not using the same map. God knows and he is with us, each of us, even when our paths are divergent.
